OBITUARY. Miss Alma Dean.
The sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances will go out to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dean, of 'Wycombe,' North brook-street, Bexley, on the death of their daughter, Alma Julia, which occurred under distressing circumstances on Saturday, 25th ult. The deceased young lady was on her way to a local cinema theatre, when she was accidentally knocked down by motor car, and so severely injured that she died while being conveyed by ambulance to the local hospital. The tragic happening took place within a few hundred yards from the spot where she was born 28 years ago, and where she had resided all her life. Though sudden, her death was not unprovided for, for she was a devout Catholic, and, as a member of the Sodalities of the Sacred Heart and the Children of Mary, was most regular in the discharge of her religious duties. The late Miss Dean, whose mother is a prominent church worker in the Hurstville parish and whose father is a popular employee of the Union Club, Sydney, was educated by the Sisters of Charity at Hurstville Convent, and was a talented musician. Her bright and jovial nature won her hosts of friends everywhere, but nowhere will she be missed more than in her own do mestic circle, for she was a dutiful daughter and affectionate sister, devoting her life to the care and comfort of the family. On the Sunday morning the body was taken to St. Michael's Church, Hurstville, where Mass was offered for the repose of her soul. The funeral, which took place on the following day to Woronora Cemetery by road, was largely attended, over 30 motor cars forming the cortege. Prior to its departure Rev. Father T. Dunlea recited the prayers in St. Michael's Church. At the graveside in Woronora Cemetery there was a large concourse of mourners — estimated at over 200 — the chief of whom were Mr. and Mrs. H. Dean (father and mother), Mrs. A. Freestone (sister), Messrs. Eric, Leslie, Harold and Keith Dean (brothers), Mr. Arthur Freestone (brother-in-law), Mrs. Erie Dean (sister-in-law) and Mr. W. D. Curran. Rev. Father J. Boran conducted the last rites at the grave. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. W. N. Bull.— R.I.P.
