Sarah Isabella Davis (1868–1954)

The death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rebbechi, 57 Nunn st., Benalla, on Tuesday, of Mrs. Sarah Isabel Davis at the age of 86 years. Her death followed an illness extending over about four years. A native of Beechworth, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Isabella Scott. She was married at Beechworth at the age of 21 years to Mr. Henry Owen Davis, who pre-deceased her in 1918. The late Mrs. Davis came to Benalla 35 years ago, and during that time made many friends who will regret to learn of her death. She was a wonderful mother and friend, and possessed many good qualities which won her friends wherever she went. Members of her family are Ethel (Mrs. Isley, Kew), Edith (Mrs. Tolmie, Hawthorn), Archibald (deceased), George (Benalla), Walter (deceased), Henry O. (North Essendon), Ella (Mrs. Rebbechi, Benalla), Beryl (Mrs. Banfield, Hawthorn), Albert (Whitfield), Maxwell (deceased). Mr. H. O. Davis, son of deceased, is federal president and state secretary of the Australian Workers' Union. Burial took place at Beechworth this morning.

As the funeral moved from the funeral parlors of Todd and O'Brien, officers of the Benalla Fire Brigade formed a guard of honor as a mark of respect. A son of deceased, the late Mr. Wally Davis, was fire station keeper for 20 years, and for about 10 years acted as secretary to the Brigade.
