Mary Ellen Davis (1862–1944)

The death has occurred of Mrs T. Davis (Mary Ellen), of Glenferrie rd, Kew, wife of the late Mr Thomas Davis, founder of Davis Bros, furniture emporium, Melbourne, who died six months ago. She was aged 82. Mrs Davis was actively engaged in patriotic work up to the time of her husband's death. During the last war she was a Red Cross worker. She has also been associated with many charitable activities. She was a life governor of the Victorian Institute for the Blind and St Vincent's Hospital, and an ex vice-president of St Anthony's Home, Kew; a member of St Vincent's Hospital, St Brendan's, and Broadmeadows Foundling Home, and did much work for Regina Coeli.

For 10 consecutive years she has had the distinction of selling 100 £1 badges for the St Anthony's Home.

She was the mother of three sons, Charles Oscar Dixon, Thomas J. Davis, John C. Davis, and a daughter, the late Marie A. King.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church, Kew, at 9.30am tomorrow, and the funeral will leave for Melbourne General Cemetery at 10.30am.
