James Alexander Cuthbert (?–1937)

Information was received in Cairns yesterday of the death, at the Eventide Home at Charters Towers of James Alexander Cuthbert, who for over 25 years was a resident of Cairns, but during the past five years was at the Eventide Home at the Towers. The late Mr. Cuthbert came to Cairns in 1910 as a postal official and was employed in the Cairns Post Office as chief sorter for a number of years, after which he left and became manager of the Cairns Pictures for a couple of years.

In 1924 he again joined the postal staff as a temporary hand until 1930. Five years ago he went to the Eventide Home in Charters Towers and his death was announced on Wednesday night. The late Mr. Cuthbert initiated the travelling post office on the Chillagoe railway. He was very well known in this city and was held in high respect. He took a keen interest in Masonic affairs.
