Frederick Croaker, n.d.

The death of Mr. Frederick James Croaker, of Walhallow, Station, Quirindi, New South Wales, which took place on the 4th of last month, removes a very interesting and highly esteemed identity from the pastoral world of Australia. Born on the Upper Manning seventy years ago, Mr. Croaker at an early age took up pastoral pursuits on Walhallow when it was owned by Messrs. J. W. and W. B. Christian, and remained associated with the property until the day of his death.

A man of strong personality and of sympathetic temperament, he was regarded with the highest respect and admiration by every one who came in contact with him. He was a wonderful judge of men, and rarely made a mistake in his estimate of them. Ever ready to advise and assist others in their troubles and difficulties, he was constantly appealed to by numerous people, and never in vain. Full of optimism and faith in the future, he always knew that the troubles of the present would ultimately merge into the prosperity of the future.

As a station manager he was pre-eminently successful, and his knowledge of pastoral affairs was extensive. Apart from his management of Walhallow for the New Zealand and Australian Land Co. Ltd., he was personally interested in other properties with his sons. He also held the honorary managership of Brenda, the pastoral property of the Diocese of Newcastle, which, under his supervision, became an extremely payable undertaking.

Mr. Croaker, whose wife predeceased him about seven months ago, left two sons and four daughters.
