John Frederick (Jack) Chapple (1883–1953)

The funeral of Mr. John Frederick Chapple, a former general president and general secretary of the Australian Railways Union, will take place to-day.

Mr. Chapple, 69, died in St. George Hospital on Saturday after a 10 months' illness which began soon after his retirement as A.R.U. general secretary in July last year.

Mr. Chapple was general president of the A.R.U. from April, 1924, until July, 1929. He became general secretary in September, 1929.

He was a former president of the Victorian branch of the A.L.P., founder of the Australia-China Co-operative Movement, and inaugural chairman of the Australia-Soviet Friendship League.

The funeral will leave the Labor Motor Funeral parlours at 11.15 a.m. to-day for Woronora Crematorium.
