Maurice Andrew (Morrie) Callard (1893–1951)

Former general secretary of the Clothing Trades Union, Maurice Andrew Callard, died at his home, Bayview crescent, Black Rock, after a seizure. He had been in ill-health for some time.

Mr Callard had been connected with the Trade Union Movement all his life.

For a time he was secretary of the Dental Mechanics' Union and played a big part in gaining it a wages board. In 1924 he was appointed organiser of the Clothing Trades Union, acting secretary in 1936, and general secretary in 1944.

He resigned this post in April last year.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.
