Thomas Maitland Browne (1862–1957)

Mr. Thomas Maitland Browne, a pioneer grazier in both Queensland and Victoria, died on 14th October last at his home, Narada, Anakie, Vic., in his 97th year.

The late Mr. Browne went from Anakie to Queensland at an early age, taking up land on the Barcoo, near Tambo. He was soon followed by his brothers and they formed the stations Narada Downs, Toliness, and Lumeah. In 1904 he went with his family to live in Victoria, buying a property at Beveridge, which in recent years has been occupied by his son.

He moved to Narada, Anakie, in 1915 and lived there until his death. Mr. Browne throughout his long life had maintained a wide circle of friends and business associates, a keen business sense, and a genial disposition, which endeared him to many.

He is survived by his son and daughter, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
