George Leonard Board (1852–1932)

The death occurred last night, after an illness of about one week, of Mr. G. L. (George Leonard) Board, aged 81 years, at his residence, Oakleigh, Ekibin Road, South Brisbane. For more than 50 years the late Mr. Board served in the Lands Department, and 12 years ago retired, having attained the position of Under Secretary. In the course of his association with the department he was stationed at Kilkivan, Gympie, Maryborough, and Toowoomba. To him also was due the formation of the present Forestry Department. As a young man he was an all-round athlete, and, representing Queensland, played cricket against England on more than one occasion. He leaves a widow, two daughters–Mrs. Clive Roche (Bald Knob) and Miss C. Board (Brisbane)–and four sons–Mr. G. E. Board (Cairns), Mr. F. L. Board (Emerald), Mr. E. D. Board (Brisbane), and Mr. B. Board (Stanthorpe). The funeral will leave his late residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon for South Brisbane cemetery.
