from Picton Post
The death occurred at his home at Lismore on Sunday of Mr. Ernest William Bentley, father of Mr. Harold Bentley of Jarvisfield, Picton. The late Mr. Bentley, who was 80 years of age, was ex-bank manager, having entered the service of the Commercial Banking Co., of Sydney at the age of 15 years. Germantown, now known as Halbrook, was the first country branch to which he was appointed. He became manager of the Ballina branch at the age of 21 years, and from there was promoted to Lismore, where he remained until his retirement, after 50 years' service.
When he assumed the managership of the Lismore Branch, the staff consisted of two, but number had grown to 11 when he retired at 65 yers of age, at which period he had completed his 100th balance as a bank official. At the end of his banking career, Mr. Bentley continued to live in Lismore with his wife and two unmarried daughters, by whom, as well as his son, he is survived. We join his friends in extending sympathy to Mr. Bentley in the loss he has sustained by the passing of his father, who was one of the oldest officers of the institution with which he was so long associated, and a highly esteemed resident of the Lismore district.
