John Bawden, 76, died in the District Hospital early yesterday morning after a short illness. Deceased was a native of Cornwall, and came to Australia as a young man. He was 32 years in the service of the Railway Department, serving in the West at Nevertire, Molong and Dubbo. In later years he had charge of the Fitzroy-street gates, and for the 12 last years of his life lived in retirement in Erskine-street, Dubbo. The deceased was very widely known and highly respected, more particularly by all railway employees. He leaves six children, the sons being John, Thomas, Albert and Arthur, and the daughters Mrs. Reynolds (Sydney) and Mrs. E. Ott (Dubbo).
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Methodist portion of the cemetery. The Rev. A. Graham officited at the graveside, and the funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. E. Lees.
