Herbert Patterson Aylwin (1864–1923)

Herbert Aylwin, n.d.

Herbert Aylwin, n.d.

from Pastoral Review, 16 July 1923

Mr. Herbert Patterson Aylwin, well known in the pastoral life in Queensland, was killed through his horse falling with him, death being instantaneous. He was born in Surrey, England, in 1864, and came to Australia in a sailing ship in 1872. For years he was in partnership with his uncle, Mr. I. W. Palmer, and after its dissolution he took up country on the Flinders. Later he managed Wambiana Station for Messrs. Edward Wienholt and Co. This station was sold, and Mr. Aylwin took up a small property on the Downs. He was secretary to the Co-operative Butter Factory in that district for some years, which position he held very satisfactorily. On giving that up he managed Arabella Station for the N.B.A. Company for some years, until it was sold, when he moved on to Noorama, belonging to the same company. After the sale of Noorama, Mr. Aylwin went back to the Downs, and was managing a property for his brother-in-law, Mr. A. S. Geary, after which he went to Yanna Station, owned by Mr. G. C. Clark. It was here he came to his tragic end. In every part he won respect and was highly thought of by all with whom he came in contact. He is survived by his widow, a daughter of the late Henry Vincent Geary.
