Sarah Austin (1853–1948)

Mrs Sarah Austin, of Hastings st, Hampton, who was in Ballarat during the Eureka Stockade incident in 1854, died this week in Melbourne. She came from England in 1853 as an infant with her father, Mr John Rowen, and went immediately to the Ballarat goldfields. Mrs Austin is survived by five daughters and three sons. One of her sons is proprietor of Austin Shoes Pty Ltd, Abbotsford. The funeral took place yesterday at the Melbourne General Cemetery.
