Elisabeth Katharine Wenke (?–1914)

It is with the deepest regret that I have to report the death of Mrs. Wenke, wife of Mr. David Wenke, which took place this morning. The deceased lady was confined of a son last Saturday, and was doing fairly well, but took a bad turn early yesterday morning, being seized with convulsions, and although medical aid was at hand, it was found that everything medical skill could do was of no avail. She gradually sank and passed peacefully away. It is needless for me to mention that the report of death came like a shock to everyone who knew her, as she was very popular among a very large circle of friends. The deceased was 25 years of age, and a daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Esler, of Whitton, and a daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. J. Wenke. She leaves a sorrowing husband, two little children, and a vast number of friends here to mourn their loss, besides her mother and several brothers and sisters, who are living in and around Whitton. The case is made all the sadder by the fact that her mother is laid up at the present time, suffering from pleurisy, and was therefore unable to go to the death bed of her daughter. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved ones. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon to the local cemetery.
