Lucy Stephen (?–1914)

The late Mrs. Septimus A. Stephen, whose death was reported as having occurred at Stanhope Gardens, London, on Wednesday last, was born in Sydney, and was a daughter of the late Mr. Robert Campbell, who for many years was a leading Sydney merchant. She was also a sister of Mr. William Campbell, M.L.C., who died recently. Her husband, Mr. Septimus Alfred Stephen, was a son of the late Sir Alfred Stephen, K.C.M.G., and was for many years a member of the Legislative Council in this State.

For the last 20 years the deceased lady resided in London. While here she was greatly interested in church and charitable work. Her children are, Mrs. Dela Salle, Colonel Robert Stephen, who is in command of the 14th Hussars in India; Mr. Colin Stephen, of Messrs. Stephen, Jaques, and Stephen; Lieutenant Humphrey Stephen, who is now at the front with the Northumberland Fusiliers; Miss Annie Stephen, and Mr. Noel Stephen, who recently joined King Edward's Horse. With the exception of Mr. Colin Stephen, the whole of the family resides outside the Commonwealth.

One of the surviving sisters of the late Mrs. Stephen is Lady Ward, widow of Sir Edward Ward, who for many years was Master of the Mint in Sydney.
