A well known Merino stud breeder in western New South Wales, Mr. George Shanklin, of Sunny Park, Coonamble, died on 2nd April after a lengthy illness. He was in his 61st year and was a bachelor.
The late Mr. Shanklin had spent all his life on Sunny Park and since 1928 had managed the Merino stud, which was founded in 1892 by the late Mr. J. Shanklin through the purchase of 600 ewes from the executors of D. P. Keogh, of Warrana, Coonamble. In 1909 the stud was taken over by the Trustees of J. Shanklin's Estate, and in 1944 was transferred to Henry, George, and John Shanklin. Boonoke rams have been used in the stud for many years, but on occasions some of the ewes have been mated with stud sires from Koonoona and Murrawombie.
The late Mr. Shanklin was a member and tireless worker for the sheep section of the Coonamble P. and A. Association for many years, and was highly respected throughout the district.
