Charlie Savage (?–1925)

At the beginning of this month the Longwool sheepbreeding industry of Australia suffered a loss in the accidental death of Charlie Savage, who for the past twelve years has been the stud master of the Yarra View (Vic.) Romney Marsh flock, owned by Captain A. B. T. Payne. He was an authority on the Romney Marsh in Australia, and on several occasions judged at the leading sheep shows in New South Wales and Victoria. He was a man of great experience and had a broad mind, and above all was a fearless and fair judge. He was born at Elham, Kent, England, and for many years was in charge of the late Charles File's famous Elham stud. In 1912, when the stud was dispersed, he was selected by Captain Payne to bring out to Australia the stud Romneys which the latter had purchased at the sale, and on his arrival here was placed in charge of the Yarra View stud flock, a position he held until his death.
