James Murphy (1801–1883)

We have to announce the death of Mr. James Murphy, a citizen of many years standing. Mr. Murphy died early this morning at the ripe age of 82. He had been ill for a very long time, and expired at his residence, Cambrian Lodge, Elizabeth-street. The deceased gentleman was for many years a City Councillor, and on one occasion was Mayor of Sydney. He always took an active interest in municipal matters, and on different occasions identified himself with works of progress in the city. He leaves a widow and three daughters to mourn their loss.
