James Melrose (?–1922)

James Melrose, n.d.

James Melrose, n.d.

from Pastoral Review, 16 May 1922

The death is reported from Adelaide of Mr. James Melrose, son of the late Mr. George Melrose, and a member of a well-known family of pastoralists in the State of South Australia. His father was one of the enterprising pioneers who was not afraid to venture into unknown portions of South Australia and establish himself.

The late Mr. Melrose was born at Rosebank, Mt. Pleasant, which has been the home of the Melrose family since the early days of the State, and he was associated with the stock-owning industry from the time he left school. He owned Wangaraleednie, on Eyre Peninsula, and subsequently purchased Willocolecke, near Hallett. He was also interested in pastoral pursuits in Central Australia and New South Wales. Although his chief interest was in Merinos, the late Mr. Melrose took a keen interest in agriculture, and was a large grower of wheat and other cereals. His son (Mr. George Melrose) has been managing his station in South Australia since his return from the war. He has left a widow, two sons and three daughters.
