One of the best known figures in Queensland grazing and pastoral circles passed away at his residence on 1st July in Mr. Clement Tom Ladbury, general manager of the Milo Pastoral Company, Queensland.
Mr. Ladbury, who was in his 62nd year, was a native of Malmsbury, Victoria, but as a young man went to New South Wales, where he engaged in pastoral pursuits at Carrar, Midkin, near Moree. From there he went first to Auburn, South Queensland, and then to North Queensland, and was for 18 years manager of Marathon Station, Hughenden. In 1907 he took over the managership of the Milo and Welford Downs Stations, the property of the Milo Pastoral Company, situated about 130 miles from Charleville. He carried on the managership of Milo, and of the nearby station Ambathala, belonging to the same company, until 1919, when he moved with his family into Brisbane. He continued to hold the position of general manager of the company up to his death, and used to make periodical visits to the Charleville properties.
Though of a quiet and retiring disposition, Mr. Ladbury took an active interest in the affairs of the district in which he lived, and in the welfare of the industry in which he had been so long engaged. He was for some years chairman of the Adavale Shire Council, chairman of the Rabbit and Dingo Board, and a prominent member of the United Graziers' Association of Queensland. Mr. Ladbury was also senior partner in the Talmoi and Carrar Wool Scours, Richmond, North Queensland. These scours were established about 30 years ago in the name of S. C. Ladbury and Co.
Mr. Ladbury leaves a widow and a grown-up son and daughter, these being Mrs. M. Shield, of Goombie, and Clement M. Ladbury, who resided with his father, as well as three brothers in Melbourne—Salathiel (of the Federal Shearing Company), Algar (of Windsor), and Albert (of Malvern), also two sisters, Mrs. M. Leitch and Miss F. A. Ladbury, residing in Malvern, Vic.
