John Henry Jurd (1814–1904)

from Windsor & Richmond Gazette

We have this week to record the death of Mr. John Jurd, of the McDonald River, at the ripe old age of 91 years. The late Mr Jurd was an old captain, and for many years had been 'before the mast' and braved the dangers of the deep. Until three years ago he was hale and hearty, but of late his constitution had been weakening, until on Saturday last he passed away. The remains of the old gentleman were laid to rest in St. Jude's Cemetery, Central McDonald, on Sunday, the Rev. H. W. Rogers being the officiating clergyman. Deceased had a family of nine, and also leaves grand and great grand-children. He was born at Central McDonald, and married at Lower Portland. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr J. T. Thompson.
