Lewis Edward Isaacs (1855–1911)

The funeral of the late Mr E. L. [Lewis Edward] Isaacs recently managing director of Feldheim Gotthelf and Co Limited took place in the Hebrew section of the Necropolis yesterday afternoon the Rev Messrs Einfeld and Wolinski officiating. Over 50 wreaths were despatched including a large wreath from the employees of the firm. About 120 of the employees were present while the total number of mourners in attendance amounted to nearly 300. Among those present were – Messrs Edgar Kenneth and Noel Isaacs (sons), Mr Henry Isaacs, Mr Philip Isaacs, Mr Septimus Isaacs, Mr O. G. Isaacs (brothers), Mr J. G. Farleigh, M.L.C., Mr Wm Dixson (of Hugh Dixson and Co), Mr Kent (of Kent, Brierley and Sully), Mr W. P. Grayson (of Robt Reid and Co), Mr F. W. Clark (of Henry Bull and Co), Mr R. Hopson (of Petersen Boesen and Co), Mr John Graham (of John Graham and Co), Mr P. C. Mitchell (of David Mitchell and Co), Mr Orwell Phillips (of Chown Bros and Mulholland), Mr Gotthelf, Mr Louis Phillip (of Moses Moss and Co), Mr George J. Cohen (of David Cohen and Co), Mr A. H. Nathan (of S. Hoffnung and Co), Mr H Tallerman (of Tallerman and Co), Mr E. Rich (of E. Rich and Co), Mr B. E. Marks, Mr E. Lichtner (of Lichtner and Co Ltd), Mr Albert Borchard, Mr Peter Britz and Mr Elvy (of Elvy and Co).

Mr Isaacs was born in 1855 at Bathurst NSW and entering the firm of Feldheim Gotthelf and Co as one of its youngest assistants, remained with the firm until its flotation as a limited liability company last September when he became managing director. He died in England on May 22 last, at the age of 56, the body being conveyed to Australia for burial. Mr Isaacs leaves a wife and six children, five sons and a daughter the youngest being 13. Their names respectively are Arthur, Hubert, Edgar, Kenneth, Dorothy and Noel of whom Mr Arthur Isaacs is at present in America while Mr Hubert Isaacs and Miss Isaacs are on their way from England in company with Mrs Isaacs.
