John Owen Giles (1872–1919)

With deep regret we announce the death of John Owen Giles, who for many years past has acted as Western Australian correspondent and representative of the Pastoral Review. He died at Claremont, Perth, 24th April. The late Mr. Giles was the eldest son of Mr. Henry A. Giles, of Mount Pleasant, S.A., and was born in 1872. In 1890 he joined the firm of Elder, Smith and Co. Limited, and rose to be manager of the Jamestown and Port Augusta branches. Later he went to the West, where he was largely instrumental in building up the stock business of Elder, Shenton and Co. Limited. Although he has been in poor health for the past two years, he retained his connection with the firm, now known as Elder, Smith and Co. Limited, until the time of his death. The late Mr. Giles was always an energetic worker, and was greatly looked up to in live stock circles in the West as a keen, straight, businessman and a firm friend.
