James Gavenloch (1847–1926)

The death occurred on Monday, at his residence, Wyoming, Gosford, of Mr. James Gavenlock, a noted lifelong resident and pioneer of this district. Deceased had reached the age of 87, and had been in failing health for some time. His last illness lasted for six months, and though Mr. Gavenlock fought on with all the toughness of the old hardy breed he was satisfied to submit to the inevitable at the last, and passed away peacefully, with farewell messages for the devoted relatives who had tended him; Mr. James Gavenlock was the founder of a very large family, members of which have won their way in every portion of this district, and outside it. He was a worthy member, of the dwindling band of pioneers, and a great number of friends will mark his passing with regret. Deceased leaves a widow, and family consisting of Mr. Arthur Gavenlock (Erina), Mr. Wilfred Gavenlock (Wyoming), Mr. Francis Gavenlock (Wyoming), Mrs. Pearl Wilson (Pymble). There were also in family four sons – and three daughters who predeceased their father. The interment took place at Lisarow Church of England Cemetery yesterday, March 10th; the Rev. A. Renwick conducting the last rites. There was a very large attendance of relatives and friends, and many wreaths were placed on the casket.
