Michael Crowley (1867–1927)

MR. MICHAEL CROWLEY.

The death occurred on Tuesday, 27th December last, of Mr. Michael Crowley, at his residence Provincial-road, Lindfield. Mr. Crowley was a brother of Mr. George Crowley, chairman of the Board of the City Mutual Life Assurance Society Ltd., and was also connected with the Society, having been for some years in charge of a section of the work in Sydney. He is survived by Mrs. Crowley, one son (Mr. John Crowley), and three daughters, one or whom is the well-known Radio singer. The late Mr. Crowley, who was educated at the Sydney University where he had a brilliant career, was a link with North Sydney that binds together much of its history. His father, Mr. Jeremiah Crowley, was the school teacher at the one great school in St. Leonards, and the list of illustrious scholars from this school who have made good in the affairs of this State would cover an immense scroll. The remains were conveyed from the residence to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Pymble, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of the soul by Rev. Father John Kelly. The esteem in which Mr. Crowley and his family are held was manifested in the number of beautiful floral tributes that were sent to the church prior to the funeral. The funeral, which was a large and representative one, left the Church of the Sacred Heart, Pymble, on Thursday, 29th ult., for interment at Northern Suburbs Cemetery. The Rev. Father J. Kelly recited the last prayers at the graveside in the presence of tile sorrowing relatives and a large number of friends who had assembled to pay a last mark of respect to deceased's memory. Among those who attended were: — Messrs. John Crowley (son), George Crowley (brother), J. M. Taylor and F. Lowe (brothers-in-law), Dr. R. J. Taylor, Dr. V. Crowley, Messrs. Kevin Crowley, J. G. Taylor and Harold Taylor (nephews), D. J. Sheridan, J. Garvan and G. Wansley (cousins), W. F. Clemens, Julian T. Dudley (chair of directors of Southern Cross Insurance Co.), C. A. Archer (representing A.P.A. insurance Co.), J. Dalton, A. Madden, J. Shanahan, M. MacMahon, P. F. Dimond, J. E. Serisier (representing Parker, Blau and Co.), H. MacDermott, A. E. Turner, E. T. Hudson, F. and J. A. Burke, A. Coolahan, P. Fitzsimons, F. Meadows, F. Spora, F. McDonough, J. Wall, H. Davis, J. Knight- Smith, K. O'Donnell, A. Maloney, J. Connnellan, M. Quirk, and representatives of the City Mutual Life Assurance Society staff. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. W. N. Bull.
