Barrett-Lennard, Edward Pomeroy (1799–1878)

I regret that this correspondence cannot close without a dark picture, in the death of another of our earliest pioneers, Mr. E. P. [Edward Pomeroy]Barrett-Lennard, whose name has been associated with the Swan district almost as long as the colony has existed. The deceased gentleman had been confined to his room for a period of nearly two years, and his health gradually failing he passed away on Saturday last, at the advanced age of 78. The funeral, which took place yesterday afternoon, was attended by a large number of settlers, townsmen, and a large number of friends from the city, the pall-bearers being Messrs. B. deBurgh, Jas. B. Roe, Geo. Johnson, and John Welbourne.
