Effie Eliza Ball (1867–1945)

By the death of Miss Effie Ball, director of Ball and Welch Limited, the last living link was severed with the firm and its founders, who began business at the little mining village of Vaughan, eight miles from Castlemaine. Vaughan, which once had a population of 25,000, went into decline and the firm moved to Castlemaine thence to Carlton, and later to its present premises, Flinders, Street, Melbourne.
