The death is reported some little time ago of a well-known resident of the Gunbar district in the person of Mr. William Ashmore, aged 87 years.

Mr. Ashmore came to the Gunbar district in the year 1888 and lived there ever since. He came from Wyalong, where he had been engaged with Government surveyors and after arriving in Gunbar worked as a carpenter for a number of years. Later he became associated with Cobb and Co., and conducted their change stables. He carried on this work until the termination of all horse mail changes at Gunbar. Of latter years he acquired a small holding and carried that on until his death.

In the year 1888 he married a Miss Christina Ann Munro and she had two sons (Donald and Bernard, of Gunbar) and a daughter (Lena, Mrs Steele, of Leeton) survive. One daughter predeceased her father.

The deceased was very highly respected in the Gunbar district and the funeral was held at Gunbar, in the Presbyterian portion of the cemetery, after a service in the Gunbar Pioneer Memorial Church.

The deceased died on 27th March and we are greatly indebted to a Gunbar district correspondent for this notice, however belated, concerning this old resident, whose passing we were not aware of until this week.
